the World AIDS Day HIV AWARENESS Quilt

1n 2015 the regional steering group EYES OPEN encouraged organisations, groups and individuals to get involved in raising awareness of HIV and World AIDS Day by being creative and producing squares for an HIV Awareness Quilt.  Inspiration for the project was taken from the USA based AIDS Memorial Quilt, which comprises of 48,000 panels and is a powerful reminder of the HIV pandemic.

The EYES OPEN 2016 HIV Awareness Quilt has 80 panels; many were created by work colleagues, young people and members of the public from Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland and Sunderland.  The final quilt was created with support from Blue Sky Trust.  It will be touring the area, in many venues that are open to the public, being used as an active participant to continue to raise awareness of World AIDS Day and HIV.
